90's revival is definitely coming. I am seeing a lot of denim, platforms and crop tops. I am not complaining about this as I have always wanted to be a 90's teen and I am pretty sure I would have been a grunger not a raver, because I am a modern-day grunger now (secretly).
This post is basically highlighting the fact that a lot of fashion is recycled and just because Topshop is selling 90's style clothing doesn't mean you have to buy it to fit in with the trend. Try real 90's clothing. Charity shops, and especially vintage shops are heaving with it at the moment - logo tees, denim dungarees, hair scrunchies and mini backpacks definitely don't go a miss in places such as Beyond Retro and Rokit if you're local to London and other big cities in England. If not, try charity shops. They do take a lot more effort to find what you're looking for, however they'll be a lot cheaper and there's charity shops everywhere!
So I thought I would choose the biggest 90's girl groups to be our unlikely style icon now. They might of been my style icon/ life icon when I was 5 but there's plenty of reason to take inspiration now we're 16+ right?
This image above is a perrrrrfect example of typical 90's style:
- mini dresses
-holographic fabric
-matching two piece
-OTT colours
-crop tops
-platform shoes
When I think of 90's style I think either grungy or sporty, so go for either of these! & don't worry, you don't have to go for a full baby spice look! Take elements of the era to change up an old outfit! Let me know if you want to hear more of my unlikely fashion icons!
